When people walk by my art, I hear some phrases over and over again-
"Look at the Color"
"What Happy Art"
"This one looks like a ____"
It is then I know I have succeeded in communicating exactly what I intended with blots of ink...even if they see a monkey playing an accordion (true story).
Colors are the foundation and inspiration for my work. The mix may change as the ink goes down, but that is part of the fun. I love interesting color combinations and I have an entire folder of bad phone photos to prove that you always have to be aware of color...because your next painting may just be inspired by the lights on the back of a tow truck in the rain (another true story).
Ribbons of inky texture draw me every time and I can spend hours just staring at the color and lines of completed piece.
